Eleanor Roosevelt once said,
‘’Great Minds Discuss Ideas. Average Minds Discuss Events. Small Minds Discuss People’’
Words, good or bad give us the ability to relate our thoughts, ideas and emotions with others in a transparent and easy way. However, we do not always realize that everything we say ultimately reflects our personality and attitude towards others and life in general.
Small minds discuss people,it means that those who discuss people as an end to itself are shallow. They tend to engage in small talk and discuss other people without any challenges or qualms for the better part of their day. This is what shunts their growth and progress in life. Such people tend to be surrounded by the same people they speak low about, condemn or criticize. They always care about what other people are doing, saying, etc. that they stop focusing on their own lives.
An average mind has lesser curiosity and discusses the things that are happening right now in your life and around you. This is not a bad thing unless one gets so distracted by events that they let them control their emotions and actions.
Great minds are more often not much of irrational thinkers, and they do not indulge in small talks or frivolous conversations about others. A large part of their time is spent in the pursuit of knowledge, innovation, and novelty.
They are problem solvers as they look for unique ways to remove hurdles and create new paths to achieve something. In short, they do not talk just for the sake of it. They talk to stimulate creative ideas and turn them into something big.
Great minds generally have a clearer idea of ‘the bigger picture’.
IN MY PERSONAL INTERPRETATION:-
This quote is not suggesting us to label people but rather it is informing us how a certain thing we do consciously or unconsciously can affect us and our mental potential.
Every mind shows itself.
So, it’s in your hand to choose which mind you want to be. You can improve it by yourself and you can shrink it too. Choose wisely.
